This is a record that hasn’t been set in over 20 years for the oldest franchise in the league. He was in the race for the Rocket Richard trophy, a trophy given to the player in the league with the most amount of goals in the regular season. Nathan Mackinnon beat Caufield’s personal record by 2 goals, scoring 53. Scoring 50 goals in the modern Nhl is by no means a common feat, this is a mark of a future legend. But here comes the issue. In arguably the most important time of the year – the playoffs, Cole Caufield has only scored 1 goal in 8 games with his only one being from a power play. What makes this so detrimental for the Canadiens is that all of Caufield’s regular season goals all came from “proper” goals where he essentially scored all of his goals on a goalkeeper and none in an empty net.
